HSE&C Awards
Baker’s dedication to excellence in Health, Safety, Environmental Management
and Regulatory Compliance (HSE&C) stems from the value we place on our people
and the importance of responsible environmental stewardship. While our HSE&C
policies and initiatives are designed to protect our people, the environment,
and the operations and reputations of our clients, government and industry
recognition of our efforts also serves to reinforce the significance of our
commitment to excellence in these areas.
The U.S. Department of Interior’s Minerals Management Service (MMS) has
acknowledged Baker’s dedication to HSE&C excellence with district-level and
national Production Contractor Safety Awards for Excellence (SAFE) on multiple
occasions in recent years. The SAFE program recognizes and commends operating
companies that expend extra effort and conduct their operations in a safe
manner, adhering to all regulatory requirements, employing trained and motivated
personnel, and going the extra mile to enhance safety and environmental
protection through targeted safety training and the creation of operations
procedures that ensure strict environmental and regulatory compliance.
In 2006, the MMS recognized Baker’s dedication to safe and responsible
operations with its 2005 National Offshore SAFE Award, which recognizes its
recipient for displaying the most exemplary safety performance throughout the
United States. In 2007, the MMS again honored Baker with the 2006 National
Offshore SAFE Award.
“This award recognizes Baker for outstanding performance while conducting oil
and gas production operations on the Outer Continental Shelf of the United
States of America,” the MMS said in presenting the awards. “After a
comprehensive review of compliance and incident data, and input from district
and regional offices, the MMS determined that Baker was the top performer in the
Production Contractor category. Baker is commended for its outstanding safety
and pollution prevention record.”
Baker also received the 2005 District SAFE Award in three of the five MMS Gulf
of Mexico districts: Houma, Lafayette, and New Orleans, as well as 2006 District
SAFE Awards for its work in the Houma, Lake Charles and New Orleans Districts.
In previous years, Baker received the 2004 New Orleans District SAFE Award for
safe operations activities on platforms in the West Delta, Grand Isle and Viosca
Knoll areas of the Gulf of Mexico and the 2003 Houma District SAFE Award for
safe and responsible operations activities on a pair of deepwater production
facilities.
These three consecutive years with District SAFE Awards and two consecutive
years with National SAFE Awards are simply a testament to Baker’s history of HSE&C
excellence. In the past five years, three deepwater facilities on which Baker
served as contract operator have won MMS District SAFE awards. With our focus on
continuous improvement and a dedication to maintaining HSE&C performance that is
better than the industry average, Baker plans to continue strengthening its
position as a global leader in safe and compliant operations activities.
