GCI Fiber Communications System Restoration |
|
Location: Alaska Services include: - Design
- Construction management
- Research and acquisition of permitting, agency, utility, geologic, and right-of-way information
GCI Inc. of Alaska owns and operates a buried fiber optic cable that provides redundant communication services for the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, which operates the Trans Alaska Pipeline. During the Fall of 2006, heavy rainstorms north of Valdez caused landslides that damaged the GCI fiber optic cable located within the pipeline’s right-of-way. Baker provided the necessary design, permitting, and construction management services to permanently restore the cable where it had been cut at six locations. All design, permitting, and construction activities were completed in less than three months, which was critical because of the short construction season in this region of Alaska.
