Alaska Spur Gas Pipeline Study |
|
Location: Alaska Services include: - Engineering
- Route selection recommendations
- Research
- Cost estimating
A team of consultants was assembled as part of an effort to develop routes for a gas pipeline within each of two major existing transportation and utility corridors that connect the interior of Alaska (where a large future gas line is anticipated) to South Central Alaska (where the majority of Alaska’s population is located). The team was tasked with performing a paper study to find the best route within each of the two corridors, determining the best pipeline configuration, developing capital costs for each, and providing a landed cost for gas in South Central Alaska. Baker was the engineering consultant for the project and was the primary participant in the route selection process, which also included permitting, right-of-way, and socioeconomic input. General routing recommendations were also developed, based on limited available data and local knowledge. Several brief field visits were included in the study and construction, engineering, and operational expertise were combined to recommend the selected routing. Information from these field visits was also used in developing pipeline cost estimates.
