As part of the $6.6 billion O'Hare Modernization Program (OMP), Baker was responsible for technical coordination of all aspects of the ORD North Airfield improvements, including serving as Lead Engineer on sustainable design and construction services for Runway 9L-27R, the first new runway in more than 30 years. Located on the north portion of the airfield, the runway was designed for full Category II/ III approach capabilities and will be used primarily for arrivals. Various supporting projects were required; including relocation of an adjacent runway threshold, an existing creek, a major employee access road complex and a 90-inch waterline. Baker received a number of "Green" awards from the OMP for its work relative to this initiative.
