GSA Corporate Schedule Contracts were developed in order to reduce the redundancy of contract administration, Federal purchasers, and suppliers by GSA. GSA found that there were a significant number of contractors that held more than one GSA schedule contract under its previous system. By obtaining a Corporate Schedule Contract, such as Baker now holds, contractors can consolidate their individual contracts under a single contract and reduce administrative time and costs. Customers can benefit from the Corporate Schedule Contract because they can now issue a single purchase order for a variety of products and services that they would otherwise have had to procure under separate purchase orders and contracts.

The GSA has traditionally classified the various types of services and products available under the schedules by Special Item Numbers (SINs). Under the Corporate Schedule Contract, service areas are assigned a different series of numbers (beginning with "C"). These Corporate Schedule SINs are cross-referenced to their respective traditional SINs. Under its Corporate Schedule program, GSA has entered into a contract with Michael Baker Jr., Inc., that any Federal agency can use to procure services in the following areas:
