Baker Engineering NY, Inc., has been selected by the New York City Department of Transportation, in conjunction with New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, to perform an in-depth inspection of High Bridge (circa 1848), New York City´s oldest standing major bridge.  Baker Engineering NY, Inc., is a unit of Michael Baker Corporation (AMEX:BKR).

Originally built to carry the Old Croton Aqueduct over the Harlem River, the first of its kind ever constructed in the United States, High Bridge soars 120 feet above the 620-foot-wide Harlem River with a total length of 1,200 feet.  This landmark structure also features a pedestrian walkway atop the aqueduct.  The walkway, however, has been closed to the public since 1970.  

The High Bridge structure, under the jurisdiction of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, will be evaluated for rehabilitation with the goal of reopening its pedestrian walkway.  The in-depth inspection and subsequent bridge condition and assessment report will be used to determine the extent of rehabilitation required to allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross the Harlem River.
