Baker Names Giffhorn to Head Energy Business
HOUSTON  -  September 24, 2002

Michael Baker Corporation (AMEX:BKR) today named Richard W. Giffhorn as president of its Baker Energy business segment.  Giffhorn replaces Donald P. Fusilli, Jr., president and chief executive officer of Baker, who has led the Energy unit on an interim basis since April.

“We are pleased to have Dick join our senior management team,” Fusilli said in making the announcement.  “His vast experience in the services side of the oil and gas business, coupled with his extensive customer orientation and relationships in the industry, are critical factors in our ability to achieve our aggressive growth agenda for the Energy segment.”

Giffhorn has more than 25 years of experience in the oil and gas services industry, primarily with Baker Hughes, Inc.  Most recently, he was vice president of operations for Baker Hughes INTEQ in Houston, Texas, where he had bottom-line responsibility for all worldwide operations, strategic development, sales and marketing of the $1.4 billion division.  Previously, he held a variety of domestic and international operations and management positions of increasing responsibility, including posts in London, Singapore, Scotland and Greece.

A native of Shreveport, La., Giffhorn resides in Kingwood, Texas, with his wife, Nancy.  They are the parents of three grown children.

Baker Energy works with oil and gas companies worldwide providing total operations and maintenance solutions.  By integrating its diverse operating and management skills, Baker Energy has evolved into a single source supplier of competency-based personnel recruiting and training, comprehensive operations and maintenance, and supply chain management services.

Michael Baker Corporation (www.mbakercorp.com) provides engineering and energy expertise for public and private sector clients worldwide.  The firm's primary services include engineering design for the transportation and civil infrastructure markets, operation and maintenance of oil and gas production facilities, architecture, environmental services, and construction management for building and transportation projects.  Baker has more than 4,200 employees in over 30 offices across the United States and internationally.
