Baker To Provide Planning and Oversight for the Keystone Corridor Improvement Program

HARRISBURG, Pa. - March 11, 2009

Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Alternext US:BKR), has been awarded a $4.0 million, 60-month engineering contract by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Bureau of Public Transportation, for the oversight of capital improvement projects undertaken by Amtrak along the Keystone Corridor rail and transit system.  The contract will cover projects along the Keystone Corridor extending from the Harrisburg, Pa., train station to the 30th Street station in Philadelphia, Pa.  Anticipated assignments will include track installation, rehabilitation/repair of various bridges, buildings, culverts, communication and signal (C&S) upgrades, and electric traction (ET) upgrading of the power generating stations along the Amtrak Right of Way.  Specific services Baker will provide include project management, construction monitoring, engineering services, planning analysis and reporting.

According to PennDOT Deputy Secretary Toby Fauver, “The Keystone Corridor is a very successful high-speed rail service.  Ridership continues to grow.  Continued investment is required to maintain and improve service.”  For the past four years, Baker has worked on a variety of rail/transit assignments with the Bureau of Public Transportation.  Baker Project Manager Richard Robyak said, “Baker is extremely excited to assist PennDOT with proper planning and oversight of capital projects along the Keystone Corridor.  Our services will assist the agency in maximizing continued investment in this important rail corridor.”
