DENVER – May 21, 2012

Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE MKT:BKR), as a major design subcontractor for the Ames/Granite Joint Venture (JV) team, has been awarded a contract by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) to provide design services for its US 36 Express Lanes/BRT Design-Build project located in Broomfield, Colo., between Denver and Boulder.  HDR, Inc. (Omaha, Neb.), is lead designer on the project.  The total value of the Ames/Granite JV design-build contract is $231 million.

Based on a unique “fixed price, best value” selection process which delivers the highest value to the owner, Baker will provide roadway, drainage, bridge and retaining wall design services, as well as traffic phasing and traffic control design.

“We are very pleased to have been selected as part of the Ames/Granite design-build team,” said Baker’s Bryan Mouser, P.E., project manager.  “The selection represents an opportunity for Baker to demonstrate its proposed innovative design and phased construction approaches that address intricate project challenges such as maintaining existing traffic flows during construction, accommodating future improvements, and designing for the inclusion of bike trails along the entire length of the project.”
