Baker to Provide Planning, Financial Oversight, and Construction Management for Public Transportation in Pennsylvania
HARRISBURG, Pa. - August 30, 2012
Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE MKT:BKR), has been awarded two, five-year contracts worth a total of $15.0 million, by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Bureau of Public Transportation.
The first contract, valued at $5.0 million, is for construction management of public transportation facilities throughout the Commonwealth. Anticipated projects include station and rail infrastructure projects along the Keystone Corridor from Harrisburg to Philadelphia. Additional anticipated projects include new and/or upgraded bus facilities such as maintenance buildings, bus transfer centers, and park and ride lots. Baker will provide services including bid document preparation, cost estimating, schedule analysis, inspection, and progress reporting.
The second contract, valued at $10.0 million, will include enhanced transit studies, evaluating current transit programs, financial analyses of transit agencies, conceptual engineering for new rail/facilities, and other projects that will assist PennDOT in improving bus and rail transportation in Pennsylvania.
According to PennDOT Deputy Secretary Toby Fauver, "Public transportation in Pennsylvania has vastly improved over the past five years. Work performed under these contracts will assist PennDOT in meeting our commitment to continually improve public transportation throughout the Commonwealth." Baker has worked on a variety of rail/transit assignments with the Bureau of Public Transportation since 2005 and is currently finishing two previous Bureau contracts for similar services.
